Do you always make your bed? This is a simple 30 day challenge that anyone can do. It doesn’t take much time and it can start your day off with a sense of accomplishment and can easily become part of your daily routine.
Why should I make my bed everyday?
Right? A lot of people will agree with the logic of not making your bed if its just going to get messed up anyway! But some feel differently.
US Admiral William H. McCraven, in his 2014 commencement speech at the University of Texas, said,
“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task, and another, and another. And by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed.”
So…one thing down and a million to go!
He went on to say,
“Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that the little things
in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be
able to do the big things right. And if by chance you have a miserable
day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made. And a made
bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.”
With a made bed your room will look cleaner, more organized, and you won’t be tempted to crawl back into bed!
But wait…
Some advise not to make your bed immediately after getting up. It might be better to leave it unmade for a little while just to let the sheets air out and get rid of any moisture before you make the bed and trap it all in. So throw the covers back, grab a cup of coffee, and go about the rest of your morning routine while you let your bed air out a bit before making it. One small task done!
And don’t forget to wash your sheets and pillow cases every week or two!
